Do I need a paid certificate if free SSL is available?
Free certificates encrypt your site just as well. Paid certificates add things free ones don't: a warranty, support, wildcard coverage, and with EV, verification of your business. Many businesses and online stores choose a paid certificate for these.
Which certificate should I choose?
Standard SSL suits most small sites. Premium SSL adds a higher warranty for business and shopping sites. Wildcard SSL covers all your subdomains, such as shop.yourdomain.com and blog.yourdomain.com, with one certificate. EV SSL is for organisations that need their identity verified.
How long does it take?
Domain-validated certificates (Standard, Premium and Wildcard) are issued once you confirm you own the domain, usually within minutes to 2 days. EV certificates usually take up to 7 days because your company details are checked.
